Who We Are:
This year more than 64,000 people in the United States will be diagnosed with some form of head and neck cancer. Thankfully, Jefferson is leading the way through the Department of Otolaryngology which is dedicated to eradicating head and neck cancer through research, clinical trials, novel therapies, and outstanding medical care.
Our integrated head and neck cancer program brings together surgical, medical, and radiation oncologists, as well as caregivers like social workers, nutritionists, and nurse navigators, for multi-disciplinary care.
Why We Need Your Support:
Your gift today to Head and Neck Cancer Research will provide essential support for the department’s key priorities:
The STEM (Squamous Cell Carcinoma Tumor Ecology & Microenvironment) working group, is focused on optimizing the treatment of squamous cell carcinoma, the primary cancer type of head and neck cancer to improve the efficacy of immune-oncology therapy in head and neck cancer, mitigate the side effects of treatments and determine the effects of stress on immune function.
For the past four years, members of the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery—residents, medical students, nurses, and anesthetists—have traveled to Haiti to provide complex head and neck care and education (CHANCE).
Screening and education of the community is important to improving quality of life and treatment outcomes for patients. Oral, Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Week is April 7-14, 2019, and as part of this effort, Jefferson will both educate and screen members of the community for free on April 10, 2019 in the Cancer Support and Welcome Center.
