Orthopaedic Research

Who We Are:

Rothman Orthopaedics at Jefferson Health is a world leader in the field of orthopaedic research, which is the bedrock of orthopaedic medicine, responsible for the modern technologies and procedures that rebuild countless lives every day.

Traditionally, orthopaedic research has focused on correcting the mechanical causes of musculoskeletal pain.  In Jefferson’s Division of Orthopaedic Research, world-renowned researchers are studying musculoskeletal challenges at the molecular and cellular level. These discoveries are powering new innovations and cellular therapies designed to target pain and tissue degeneration at their biological sources, addressing both the mechanical symptoms of orthopaedic conditions and their underlying physiological causes.

Why We Need Your Support:

Your gift today will support the Division of Orthopaedic Research, specifically:

  • Back pain and spinal disc degeneration research to develop better treatments and therapeutic alternatives to combat the overreliance on prescription medications in the US and unraveling the biological causes of back pain.

  • Orthopaedic infection research to address infections in joints and on implants and to pioneer new approaches and technologies to better treat and prevent these complications.

  • Fibrosis/excessive scarring research because scarring is an all-too-common disorder affecting patients who have undergone orthopaedic surgery. Researchers are pioneering bold new ways to block excessive collagen production, prevent abnormal scarring, and improve recovery for orthopaedic patients.

  • Cartilage and bone research to discover new ways to regenerate tissues and to treat and prevent osteoarthritis, stress fractures, and other orthopaedic conditions.
